Why are incubators needed and how do they work?

Incubators are useful and fairly simple equipment. Despite the apparent complexity, anyone can handle them. But who might need household incubators and why? We will examine this issue in more detail in the article.

Modern poultry incubators are designed to hatch healthy chicks with a higher probability than would be the case naturally. They are actively used by poultry farmers to control and increase productivity. Such devices provide optimal conditions for hatching chicks of different species. Moreover, there are models designed for specific birds, as well as universal ones.

Such devices have been used for a very long time, but it is modern automatic models that cope with the task almost perfectly. Incubators reproduce the optimal temperature and humidity that eggs need for proper development. Of course, birds usually cope on their own, but incubators are used for more efficient rearing and mass production. With them, the chance of getting 100% healthy chicks, with the correct selection of the laid material, is quite high. After all, it is much easier to control the conditions in the machine than in a regular nest.

Nowadays, there are a huge number of different incubators. And depending on the model and type of the device, it can be useful for poultry farmers, laboratories or just people interested in breeding birds on their own.

An automatic incubator allows you to provide the best conditions. With it, you don’t even have to worry about regularly turning the eggs. Modern models do everything themselves. And you can set very precise settings in them, which the equipment will follow at each stage of “hatching” the eggs.

Each device has a heating element. These can be incandescent lamps (rarely used), a heating element or an infrared strip. The last two options are objectively better because they allow you to better maintain the temperature, are safer and do not give off light, which is closer to natural conditions. To make it easier to monitor the temperature, a thermostat is installed inside the incubators.

And to maintain humidity in the incubator, special trays or grooves are used, into which water flows. Modern models have a built-in hygrometer, allowing you to accurately monitor the humidity inside. After all, each type of bird requires a certain level of moisture during different periods of incubation. So, even if the incubator does not have an integrated hygrometer, it is worth purchasing separately.

Also, each incubator has a ventilation system. It can be passive or active - with a fan.

Modern incubators allow you to practically not interfere with the process. With them, you will get maximum productivity and efficiency at minimal cost. Which is beneficial both for mass poultry breeding and for a small home farm.
